SELECT mattered because it moved GLP-1 from 'weight-loss drug' to 'cardiovascular-risk drug' for a specific population. A roughly 20% reduction in heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular death is a meaningful clinical outcome, and it earned semaglutide a cardiovascular indication.
The catch for this site's topic: SELECT used the approved product at its labeled dose. There is no evidence a compounded microdose delivers the same cardiovascular protection, and claiming otherwise would extrapolate far beyond the trial.
Tirzepatide, for its part, doesn't yet have an equivalent cardiovascular-outcome result for the weight indication, which is one of the real differences between the two molecules.
